Yes, you may already have guessed it reading the title ;)
I took a long needed look at the design of my twitter account and came to the conclusion that it was about time to pick up the pieces and redesign the old design.
I finally had some spare time and after browsing through the unlimited articles of the great wide web (See links below) I found had gathered enough inspiration and made enough sketches in Photoshop to get started.
The result you can see at www.twitter.com/jonashgaard and I will here try to give you a detailed explanation of my thoughts behind the design (yes I didn't just make it without having a plan... ;)
1. The overall purpose of my twitter account is to share and not least receive the newest information about upcoming trends in marketing and at the same time I am still in the experimental phase as a twitter user, as it is not really something that has caught a bigger user group in Denmark, beyond the people within the industry. But it is growing not least due to the recently passed government election.
2. The design is based on my love for whitespace and simplicity, and as Steve Jobs once said
“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.”(BusinessWeek, May 25. 1998)So with that in mind and coming across ADWEEK's twitter my design foundation was in place.
*See the typographic logo to the top left. I am still looking for a more interesting font, but so far this will do. You might recognise it from the LinkedIn logo. (Myriad Pro Bold @ Fonts used in popular logo's).
3. The measurements of the page is based on this article from www.webdesignshock.com and I chose to make it wide enough to fit into the most common 1280 x 1024 resolution. This gave me a chance to ad a little image of my own, in the top right side. It's a bald eagle from a photo hunting a flock of twitter logo birds scattering, as to symbolise that we currently see many organisations and regimes trying to suppress the freedom of speech via social media channels. But only to see their efforts circumvented by the people of the Arabian Spring and Wikileaks etc.
4. The center top image is from my facebook account. My friend and colleague Michael Bisgaard and I once realised that we could make a profile picture that appeared integrated into the design of Facebook and so, as a promise of similar future attempts here on twitter I chose to ad it.
The text "Career under construction" is constructed out of a maze and symbolises that I am just entering the first steps of what I hope to be, a long and amazing journey into the real world outside my former university lifestyle.
And that's it for now! :) As you may have noticed, I'm still trying to learn how to write short and to the point blog posts.
Next up is the redesign of this blog, but perhaps I should attempt to develop a more defined design identity for myself.
Thank you for reading my blog.
